International Studies at ECU, At A Glance
Undergraduate Study: Multidisciplinary Studies, Bachelor of the Arts
This 30 s.h. concentration lies within the Multidisciplinary Program. The concentration in International Studies brings together courses from a range of disciplines focusing on social, cultural, economic and political areas of international importance in our increasingly globalized society. Curriculum requirements include 1) core courses (15 s.h.) and 2) an area of focus, such as a regional focus (e.g., European or African Studies) or a specialized concentration (e.g., international conflict studies or global economy) (15 s.h). Majors are encouraged to study available modern language offerings and take advantage of study abroad opportunities.
Undergraduate Study: Minor
This 18 s.h. mulitidisciplinary minor can be earned with or without participation in overseas opportunities or language training, but both are encouraged. Students complete core courses (9 s.h.), a upper-level seminar (3 s.h.), and internationally-focused electives (6 s.h.). No course credit counted toward a student’s major may be used to fulfill the requirements of the program.
Undergraduate Study: Certificate in Global Understanding
The certificate helps students understand and appreciate the peoples, issues and ideas within the global community. The certificate requires 15 s.h. of credit including a 9 s.h. core consisting of a Global Understanding course, 1001 and 1002 courses of the same foreign language, 6 s.h. of electives chosen from the list of internationally-focused courses, and an approved academic study abroad program or internship of at least one summer session. (International students may substitute an equivalent period of study at ECU.)
